1928年5月,贺昌以中共中央巡视员身份,奉命巡视湖南,并担负了领导重建湖南省委的艰巨使命。其后,在不足两个月的短暂时间里,贺昌和其他同志一道,迅速恢复重建了湖南各级党组织,密切了井冈山根据地与中央、湖南省委的联系,并指示发动平江起义,促成了红5军与红4军的井冈山会师,奠定了湘鄂赣根据地形成的基础。贺昌及其战友在湖南卓有成效的工作,写下了中国革命史上非同寻常的一页。
In May 1928, with the inspection of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, He Chang was instructed to visit Hunan and took the difficult task of leading the Hunan provincial party committee. Later, in less than two months’ brief time, together with other comrades, Hechang promptly resumed the reconstruction of party organizations at all levels in Hunan, closely linked the Jinggangshan base with the Central Committee and Hunan Provincial Party Committee, and instructed the launch of the Pingjiang Uprising to promote Red 5 Army and Red Army 4 Jinggangshan Meeting, laid the basis for the formation of Hunan, Hubei and Jiangxi base area. He Chang and his comrades in Hunan have done fruitful work and wrote an extraordinary page in the history of Chinese revolution.
