草莓是多年生的草本果树。草莓浆果外形鲜艳美丽,果肉鲜美多汁,并且具有特殊益人的馨郁芳香,含有丰富的维生素和矿物质。草莓除供鲜食外,还可加工成草莓酱,草莓酒、草莓汁、糖水草莓、蜜饯等罐食品,及各种冷饮,是出口和内销的珍贵果品。草莓的浆果成熟期很早,在北京地区一般在5月中下旬成熟。在河北省崇礼县乌拉哈达村6月中下旬成熟。盆栽草莓可提前到4月底5月初成熟,是水果淡季的早熟鲜食水果。
