Michael Gray, in a recent gem and treasure trove of essays about carving large gems, reported on a 22,982-carat topaz, named “American Gold,” the largest faceted gem. The gemstone has now been donated by Drs.Marie and Edgar Borg-atla to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC along with the Minerals Association of America.
