The plating shop of our school discharges a large amount of chromium-containing waste water during the production process. Chromium is a toxic substance and the national regulations stipulate that the concentration of hexavalent chromium in surface water bodies should not exceed 0.05 mg/l. According to investigations, the concentration of hexavalent chromium in wastewater from electroplating workshops exceeds the above criteria. These wastewaters are discharged directly without treatment, which will surely cause extreme environmental health problems in our school and downstream agricultural production.
