The appearance of exotic scenery in Chinese painting is a relatively new topic. Only in modern times has it been possible for painters to travel overseas and write sketches in real life because of changes in the Chinese world outlook and traffic conditions. Since the 1950s, Fu Baoshi, Zhao Wangyun, Shilu, Li Keran and Guanshanyue were appointed by the government to obtain a special opportunity to visit foreign sketches and create a series of excellent works that truly show exotic scenery. Their sketches are both correct The natural reflection of the exotic scenery and cultural concepts also has the significance of cultural exchanges and cultural diplomacy. Meanwhile, with the broadening of the horizon, how to use the traditional painting language to express exotic scenery has also become a new topic for Chinese painters at the time. In particular, When it was put under the grand background of “Chinese Painting Transformation”, the painter’s series of changes in his way of thinking, observation method, expression technique and aesthetic orientation brought us more profound revelations. This undoubtedly has important significance for us to review and summarize the evolution of Chinese painting language and form in the 20th century and think about the sustainable development of Chinese painting in the future. Organized by Guanshanyue Art Museum, “Exotic Travel - A Special Exhibition of Chinese Sketches by Chinese Painters in the 1950s-1970s” and a seminar conducted an in-depth and full-scale academic review, and this issue of our journal focuses on this issue Published in order to lead the academic community and readers to further the issue of this concern.
