白榆生长快,材质好,繁殖容易,适应性强。榆叶、榆钱又是喂猪的好饲料。因此,白愉是群众喜爱的“硬杂木”、“饲料树”,又是四旁绿化的优良树种。过去白榆幼树修枝是“穷榆富柳”、“重榆轻柳”,对白榆幼树修枝强度过大,树干修得又高又细,夏季树冠枝叶沉重,造成千形弯曲,生长缓慢。我县东州大队贫下中农,在植树造林、“绿化祖国”的群众运动中,结合生产实践,开展科学实验。从1968年开始逐步掌握了白榆生长规律,创造了“打头修枝”新技术,解决了榆树“生长慢、树干容易弯”的矛盾,为自榆速生丰产提供了新的途
