A. INTRODUCTION Selected Articles: “Homesick” is selected from the American writer Harry Mazer (Harry Mezel)’s novel “The Last Mission” (1979). This novel describes the story of a 15-year-old Jewish American teenager Jack Leber in the post-World War II story of hatred of Hitler and Nazi Germany and his longing for the army, using his brother’s birth certificate to tell the story of his age being drafted into the army. After joining the army, Jack became a gunner of the United States Air Force. He and his comrades drove several times over the English Channel with a B-17 bomber and went deep into the enemy territory to carry out air strikes. When Jack randomly executed the 24th mission -- bombing the Czechoslovak region where the Nazis were occupying at the time, his fighter plane was unfortunately hit by enemy anti-aircraft gunfire and left the huge bomber fleet. After abandoning the aircraft, Jack dropped into the hands of the enemy. In German prisoners of war camp, he went through hardships and dangers, and finally ushered in the final victory of the Allied war on Germany. This article is selected from the fourth chapter of the novel. Jack and his comrades ended their intense training for several months and were about to leave for a short vacation in New Orleans before the war. Jake, who was far away from his hometown, was alone in the street and had accumulated a few months of homesickness. indistinct
