At present, there is increasing pressure on academics and graduate students to publish their papers in well-known academic journals with high impact factors. As a result, academic writing projects increasingly target the publication of English for Research Publication Processes (ERPP), especially research articles (RA) genres. Project funding application writing is another genre of writing that has a significant material impact, as publishing research papers often relies on whether or not they will be able to gain access to project research in the first place. However, this “behind the scenes” genre has not yet been sufficiently reflected in the ESP literature in terms of research and teaching. This article describes how to design and apply teaching modules for funding research projects for science and engineering graduates. The material in this study is based on the results of a project written research project and uses Swayrs’ genre in teaching. The article also summarizes the students’ matching of the lexical grammar pattern with the concrete step structure, and briefly describes two problems related to lexical grammar: the repetition of the corpus language by beginner writers and the use of ELF ) Language-like recognition. Both of these issues deserve careful and thoughtful consideration in the ESP curriculum for academic writing.
