不论历史还是现在,欧洲都是世界足坛的绝对重心,尽管首届世界杯赛主办权落户于南美的乌拉圭,但是从主办届数、参赛队数量、比赛场次到整体战绩,欧洲都远超其他大洲。然而,就像本刊上期“南美篇”中提到的,欧洲在夺冠次数上与南美平分秋色,且从来没有在欧洲以外的土地上捧杯而归,也没有巴西那样世界杯全勤的球队,更重要的是,在与南美的直接交锋中,欧洲球队历史战绩处于劣势。在此前的世界杯历史上,欧洲球队总共参加了383场比赛,取得了182胜89平112负的成绩,胜率方面也达到了47.52%,位居各大洲之首。由于在之前的回顾中,除南美之外的各大洲与欧洲的交锋史均有提及,所以“欧洲篇”单独介绍欧洲球队与南美球队的交锋,这也是欧洲球队唯一在较量中不占优势的对手。
