据美国圣路易斯大学医学院临床医学副教授巴尔丹萨尔报告,在最近的一次试验中,24例类风湿性关节炎病人口服金剂,一天二次,在开始治疗后1～5个月里,其中19例症状先后得到改善,包括关节疼痛减少,关节肿胀减少,握力增加,早晨强直持续时间减少。其中5例病人有些副作用,包括皮疹,口腔溃疡,腹泻。但是,口服金剂没有目前肌注金剂引起的极为严重的副作用如肾疾患和骨髓抑制。

Five of the patients had some side effects, including rashes, mouth sores and diarrhea. However, oral gold agents do not have the very serious side effects of current intramuscular gold agents such as nephropathy and myelosuppression.
