Objective: To investigate the effects of AM fungi on the growth of four medicinal plants. Methods: In this paper, AM fungi were inoculated into seedlings of four species of Medicinal Herbs, Cassia mutabilis, Abrus cantoni, and Artemisia annua. The mycorrhizal infection rate and the growth of medicinal plants were observed. RESULTS: Two kinds of AM fungi (Glomus versiforme and Glomus mosseae) could form a symbiotic system and developed well with the roots of four medicinal plants. The highest arbuscular mycorrhizal infection rate was Cassia, which reached 75%; followed by Qianjinba, which reached 70.3%; the lowest was Artemisia annua, only 24.6%. Inoculation of Glomus versiforme and Glomus mosseae could increase the plant height, stem diameter and root length of Jack Caterpillar, Cassia, Abrus cantoniensis and Artemisia annua differently. Conclusion: AM fungi have a good promoting effect on the growth of medicinal plants. Artificial inoculation of AM fungi has opened up a new way for the protection and improvement of medicinal plant resources.
