The first National Conference on Text Reform adopted the important resolution that vigorously promoted Putonghua, a common language of the Han nationality, based on the standard pronunciation of Beijing speech. The general political department of the People’s Liberation Army issued a circular in November to promote simplification of Chinese characters, promotion of Putonghua and language standardization among the troops.
