Laboratory leaching tests are usually used to evaluate heap leaching of gold and silver ores. This test is quite simple. The ore to be tested is loaded into an appropriately sized impregnation column, and then the alkaline cyanide solution is sprayed on the ore to collect the leached solution. The leached solution is then passed through an activated charcoal column to recover gold and silver in solution. Zinc precipitation can also be used for silver ores, or ores that contain large amounts of soluble silver in addition to gold. The length of the test leaching time depends mainly on the recovery of various precious metals from the ore speed. At the end of the test, the tailing assay is analyzed and the test recovery is determined based on the calculated grade of the ore selected.
