四、从《差半车麦秸》到《牛全德与红萝卜》我逃出北平以后,本来打算从山东去上海,继续写长篇小说。到了济南,看见报纸,才知道中国军队已经于十三日同日本侵略军打起来了。我于是改变主意,在济南住了两天,乘火车回到开封。我回到开封以后,先去看嵇文甫同志,这是第一次同他见面。他那时在河南大学教书,在河南学术界和教育界的声望很高。他问我的打算,我告诉他我打算往延安去。又过了两三天,遇到王阑西同志。他劝我不要去延安,留在开封同他一起办个刊物,鼓吹抗日救亡。我一听有道理,当即同意。经过短期筹备,《风雨》(周刊)就出版了。主编是嵇文甫,我和阑西出名,编委中有范文澜同志等,吴强同志管发行工
