长途迁徙的游牧经济生活限制了游牧民的生活方式,使他们不能携带太多的用具。对他们来说,周围环境的色调不仅仅反映了物体的物质属性,而且构成一种感觉体系,它成为草原居民社会象征的基础,也表现了他们的审美观念。在广阔无垠的草原上,视觉信息是远距离联系最通行和最方便的形式,尤其是战争年代,单身行人按远处游牧点的颜色判断其族属,可能成为生死攸关的问题。中世纪史诗《岭格斯尔》中的豁里部就有白帐、黄帐和黑帐三部。
