作为近代中国乃至东亚各国最早系统地采用欧洲比较音乐学研究方法的学者,王光祈先生在其所著《东方民族之音乐》中,首次用“调子音阶组织”作分类标准,把“世界乐系”分为“中国乐系”、“希腊乐系”和“波斯阿拉伯乐系”三大类。作为后继者中的卓越代表,王耀华先生对王光祈三大乐系思想在进行继承的同时,从纲目并举的著述方式、三大乐系思想的应用、三大乐系的音乐形态特点进行拓展,并在探索和实践中国音乐理论体系的建构等方面,对王光祈先生的三大乐系思想进行了系统发展。
