砖雕是在砖上雕刻各种图案的一门手艺,大多用于各类建筑物的装饰品。中国的砖雕工艺源远流长,富有地方代表性的有徽州砖雕、苏州砖雕、河州砖雕等。河州是今甘肃省临夏回族自治州的古称,河州砖雕也是中国回族砖雕艺术的典型代表。河州砖雕历史悠久,至今可见最早的遗存是金代墓室中出土的一些砖雕作品。临夏清真北寺门前照壁上工艺精湛的砖雕作品,据后人推断,是清代乾隆年间制作的。
