刘道玉四十八岁就任武汉大学校长,启动的一系列教育改革不仅在当时激活了武汉大学并使之面貌一新,而且被同行刮目相看。三十多年过后,刘道玉的传奇仍在延续,并成为人们津津乐道的话题。由作家野莽撰写、总计七十万字的《刘道玉传》,2013年1月由华文出版社出版。该书以旁观者的视角,与此前刘道玉的自传《一个大学校长的自白》(长江文艺出版社2005年出版)及增定本形成了鲜明对照,无论是刘道玉本人的经历,还是他在武汉大学实施的改革,野莽的写作均提供了更为宏大的历史背景和更为丰富的细节。在温情回顾和追溯校长教育功绩与优秀品格的同时,野莽也刻意与传主保持着恰当的距离。对于刘道玉未道其详和一些不愿提及的历史往事,野莽也并未回避。日前,《新京报》记者、兼本刊特约记者张弘采访了该书作者野莽先生。

While reviewing and tracing the merits of principal’s education and his outstanding character, Wild Mang deliberately maintains the proper distance from the deportment. For Liu Daoyu the unmarried sentiment and some reluctant to mention the historical past, wild Mang did not evade. Recently, “Beijing News” reporter, and Hong Kong-based special correspondent Zhang Hong interviewed the author Mr. Wild Mang.
