２０世纪中西文化始终处于一种较为紧张的对峙状态，这构成 ２０世纪中国文学民族化的基本背景。新文学的民族化在第一个十年取得的成功与此后所遭受的挫折均可在此背景下得到解释。随着中国综合国力的进一步增强，中西文化交流环境必将进一步宽松，新世纪中国文学民族化进程也必将进一步加速。
The twentieth century, Chinese and Western cultures always in a more intense state of confrontation, which constitutes the 20th century, the basic background of nationalization of Chinese literature. The success of the nationalization of new literature in the first decade and the subsequent setbacks can be explained in this context. With the further enhancement of China’s comprehensive national strength, the environment for the exchange of Chinese and Western cultures will surely be further relaxed and the process of nationalization of Chinese literature in the new century will surely be further accelerated.
