Monolithic MCUs provide a single-chip solution for many systems, but there are many applications where the required functionality is hard to integrate in a single chip and, if so, the cost can be prohibitive. Applications of this type include high-current drivers, high-voltage drivers, or other functional circuits not available with standard CMOS processors. Automotive control systems, consumer electronics products, and industrial control systems often require digital logic; hybrid circuits for high current control and high voltage drive capability.
