The low-cost liquid molding technology for composites will be the focus of research for the Advanced Materials Smart Process Design Center (AMIPC), funded by the US Naval Research Office (ONR). ONR allocated $ 1.4 million over a 15-month period to a working group of researchers at the University of Delaware (UD) working with industry and government agencies. Karl Steiner, chief executive of the Center for Composites at the University of Delaware (CCM), said sensible composite process design with liquid molding will cut costs and improve product quality. This AMPIC program will include three major phases: virtual production; laboratory-scale verification; design prototyping. Virtual production includes computer simulation to verify the ideal process design parameters.
