英语中某些比较结构的用法及意义非常复杂.有些结构相同或相似,但其用法及所表示的意义却大不相同;有些结构不同,却表示相同的意义;有些虽是比较结构,但并无比较意义;还有些其形式是肯定的,却常表示委婉的否定概念.在日常运用中,这些结构易于混淆而导致错误的表达或理解.本文拟对其中某些较特殊的结构就其特殊意义及用法作肤浅的解析.l.batter…than…better than…含有“better…than…”结构的语句可表达“宁…,也不…”;“与其…,不如…”的意思,其语义在于肯定前项,否定后项.如:Better die studing than live kneeling.宁可站着死,也不跟着生.Better the head of a dog than the tail of alion.宁为犬首,勿为狮尾.Better to do well than to say well.说得好,不如做得好.
