The emission spectrum for the qualitative analysis of rare earth elements was found using ICP spectroscopy simulation techniques. The wavelength and relative intensity of each emission line is stored on a floppy disk. Given the wavelength of the spectral line to be examined on the computer keyboard, the adjacent lines of the line are automatically detected and their contours are drawn in the shape of a Gaussian distribution. The simulated spectrum is very similar to the one actually observed. The emission lines are selected based on the principle that their mutual interference becomes small even when the interfering element concentration far exceeds the element under test. The lines selected are very different from those used in the quantitative analysis of the analytes that are usually known. The rules system of this qualitative analysis is based on the pattern recognition method. Here, we compare the intensity ratio of the observed emission lines for each element to the one for which only one element is to be measured.
