我省第二体工大队航空模型队在多年的训练竞赛中深刻地认识到,(三项自由飞项目(FIA、FIB、FIC)比赛的成败关键在于准确地捕捉超低空(200米以下)微气象(10—100米范围内)中的热上升气流。但是,这么小范围内的气流变化,气象部门没有专门的探测仪器,国内外各个行业也没有研究这方面的报导和资料,在以前的比赛中,教练员、运动员就凭皮肤的感觉或用简单的点温仪和风标来测定气温的变化,选择起飞时机,没有充分的科学依据,往往因为一轮气流测定失误,造成比赛失败。这样的情况在以往的世界比赛和全国比赛中都有深刻的教训。经过分析多次世界锦标赛和全国比赛的情况和成绩,以及本队训练比赛的经验,发现许多优秀运动员成绩很不稳定,大起大落,
