A brief history of using chromosomal aberrations as a radiation bio-dosimeter and its use in acute accidental irradiation and earlier exposure is presented. The rapid development of the newly developed fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) method for the rapid detection of translocation in primary blast survivors, previous accidental exposures, and chronic occupational exposure and the estimation of cumulative doses are highlighted.
