回望艺术史,作为艺术作品的媒介载体,物质材料与艺术品有着密不可分的相伴相生的关系,在艺术作品不断丰富和改变着人类文化蓝图的同时,物质材料自身亦有着清晰的发展轨迹。伴随着十九世纪现代化的发展,当工业文明引领世界前行时,不仅使我们享受到由于物质的极大丰富所带来的愉悦,而且也使我们感受到因物质对文化常态的碰撞和对形而上的渗入所带来的精神冲击。在物质革命的成果中,首当其冲的是物质文化概念的重新定义。
