据数据统计襄阳市风力资源丰富,适合传统水平轴式风力发电机发电(要求风力等级大于2级)的平均年天数在2/3以上,且现在由于技术的进步,最新的2016年的磁悬浮风力发电对于风力等级最低为1.5级即可形成有效发电,并且襄阳市有大片区域沿河沿江,风力资源相对丰富,具有发展风力发电的优势。在小型风力发电领域,相比于传统水平轴式风力发电机而言,磁悬浮风力发电机虽然造价高,但其优点突出:第一,前者带有尾翼,必须随风向变化转动叶片;后者依靠螺旋式风翼旋转,不随风向变化改变轴心。第二,前者噪音大,受不定风向影响较大,摆动多,叶片易脱落,3年须更换一次配件;而后者运转稳定,基本无噪音,不受不定风向影响,摆动少,叶片不易脱落,可持续使用15-20年。第三,前者要求空旷无遮蔽的大空间;而后者对空间要求低,无论市区、郊区、沿海山区皆可用。
