层出不穷的实验性的尝试涌现在《沙滩文化》和《机关枪》杂志中。对于一些脱颖而出的摄影师、插图师和艺术家而言,在这些杂志中的名誉被认为是开创一项事业的大门。这也是大卫·卡逊的灵活的艺术指导方式的必然结果。当时的全球社会环境,诸如柏林墙的倒塌、苏联的解体、美国经济的严重衰退和海湾战争也起着重要作用。可以说《机关枪》杂志的无政府主义姿态给全世界那些倡导新自由概念的年青人以热烈的影响。过去几年中的美国经济的表面复苏似乎对危机感有所减缓。与此同时,它正好与平面设计中缺乏探索的情形相吻合,今天任何去创造新编辑设计的努力肯定会面对与九十年代早期流行的截然不同的情况。现在所有规则已被远远抛弃,没有什么事物能使我们惊奇。
An endless stream of experimental attempts emerged in “Beach Culture” and “Machine Gun” magazines. For some forerunner photographers, illustrators and artists, the reputation in these magazines is considered the gateway to a career. This is also the inevitable result of David Carson’s flexible art direction. The global social environment of that time, such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of the Soviet Union, the serious economic recession in the United States and the Gulf War also played an important role. It can be said that the anarchist stance of “Machine Gun” magazine has had a dramatic impact on those young people in the world who advocate the concept of neo-liberty. The resurgence of the U.S. economy in the past few years seems to have softened the sense of crisis. At the same time, it coincided with a lack of exploration in graphic design, and today any effort to create a new editorial design will certainly face the very different situation from the early 1990s. Now that all the rules have been far removed, nothing can surprise us.
