The great improvement in the preparation of new textbooks is well known. However, how to effectively use new textbooks is an issue that needs urgent discussion. This article only takes the first lesson of the “number axis” as an example to discuss the author’s views from two aspects. 1 Differences between the characteristics of the new textbook and the old and new textbooks 1.1 The status and role of the “number axis” The position of the “number axis” in the rational number chapter is critical. From the point of view of the combination of numbers and shapes, the concept of rational numbers, the concept of opposite numbers and absolute values, as well as the method of grasping the more reasonable size, and learning rational numbers are intuitive and convenient, and can make students more fluent.
