Common prosperity is one of the essential characteristics of socialism and its fundamental goal. The idea of common prosperity between the eastern and western regions occupies an important place in Comrade Deng Xiaoping’s theoretical system of building socialism with Chinese characteristics. Since the reform and opening up, Comrade Xiaoping systematically discussed the economic development relations between the eastern and western regions of China and narrowed the gap between the eastern and western regions, forming a complete concept of common prosperity for the eastern and western regions. Upholding the coordinated development of regional economy and gradually narrowing the gap in regional development are also the major guidelines that the “Fifth Plenary Session of the 14th Central Party Committee” has put forward for the economic and social development to be implemented in the next 15 years.
