Objective: To evaluate the clinical significance of erythropoietin in patients with cerebral infarction. Methods A total of 40 patients with similar cerebral infarction in the two groups were prospectively randomized and matched. The treatment group began to use recombinant human erythropoietin (rhEPO) 24h after admission; with 10000IU / time, subcutaneously, once every other day for two weeks. The control group was not given rhEPO treatment, the other treatment with the treatment group, high pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) determination of cerebrospinal fluid glutamate levels in both groups, and the treatment of two groups were compared. Results There was a significant difference in cerebrospinal fluid glutamate level and prognosis between the two groups. The glutamate level in cerebrospinal fluid of the treatment group was lower than that of the control group (P <0.01), and the prognosis was better than that of the control group (P <0.01). Conclusion rhEPO can reduce the excitotoxicity of glutamate in patients with cerebral infarction and have neuroprotective effect in patients with cerebral infarction.
