The latest World Trade Organization statistics released in 2001 by the World Trade Organization show that in 2001 China's total import and export of goods amounted to 509.8 billion U.S. dollars and its ranking in world trade rose from 7th to 6th. The Lausanne Institute for Management Development in Switzerland released the “Global Competitiveness Rankings” in 2002, ranking the 31st in mainland China, an increase of two places over last year.
