Eckersley父子所编的Essential English 第一册第156页有这么一句:“Which man is nearer the chair—Mr.Brown(the man with a stick)orMr.Green(the man without a stick)?”句中nearer带着宾语the chair,好象是个介词;可介词又为什么变起比较级来呢?这种语言现象乍看起来,确实叫人摸不着头脑。
Eckersley’s son and son’s compilation of the first volume of Essential English in the first volume is 156. “Which man is nearer the chair—Mr. Brown (the man with a stick) or Mr. Green (the man without a stick)?” With the chair as the object, it seems to be a preposition; why can the preposition change from the comparative level? This language phenomenon at first glance seems to be incomprehensible.
