Recently, the OPEC passed a resolution that the monopoly organization reduce the oil output by 7% from June 1, that is, 200 million barrels per day. At present, the OPEC’s 10 member countries daily oil production totaled 27.4 million barrels (including the portion of production exceeded the prescribed share). Before the start of the military campaign against Iraq, OPEC passed the resolution of overcapacity in the production of oil because of concerns about insufficient oil supply to raise oil prices. As expected, the price of a barrel of oil was close to 40 U.S. dollars during the first days of the war in Iraq. Rafael Ramirez, Venezuela’s oil minister, said: “It is very important that the current cuts in production beyond the limit be made. We should be better disciplined and recover the remaining output in the market.” However, oil production increased on April 24: 24.5 million barrels a day (not OPEC)
