Because methylene blue has bactericidal, oxidative and reductive properties, the authors question whether this agent may cause adverse effects of gametes, embryos and / or genital secretions. It has been observed that methylene blue has a time-and dose-dependent inhibitory effect on human sperm motility, such as inhibiting the growth of 2-cell mouse embryos. In addition, methylene blue exists in the uterus, fallopian tubes, and peritoneal fluid, altering the fluidity of the protein in polyacrylamide gels and producing significant up to 260% (P <0.05) values for FSH and estradiol. The data suggests that methylene blue in genital tract fluids may provide the illusion of biochemical and biophysical components that there should be proper vigilance using methylene blue as a dye in tubal insufflation.
