Chinese companies are star-studded in the 2012 Top 500 list. In 2012, the list companies in mainland China (excluding Hong Kong, excluding Taiwan) increased for the 9th consecutive year with a total of 73 companies on the list, an increase of 12 from 2011. The number of companies on the list in mainland China has surpassed that of Japan, behind only the 132 countries in the United States, while the number of companies on the list in the United States has decreased by one over the previous year.
