The existing definitions of ballistic limits and weight factors are not particularly suitable for evaluating additional armor attached to metal base armor. In order to evaluate the ballistic protection provided by the additional armor, a new definition called the local efficiency coefficient (DEF) was proposed. This definition is based on the relative areal density saved by using an additional armor system. The article provides examples of DEF applications for light armor system kinetic energy projectiles (KE) and reactive armor chemical resistant projectiles (CE).
