科学家预测,由于微晶片上半导体物理特性的天然限制,电子计算机的运算速度和复杂程度,将以每18个月增加一倍的速度保持到2012年,其后将被一种全新概念的量子计算机取而代之。量子计算机利用的不再是现有的物理定律,而是玄妙的量子原理。它与传统电脑的最大区别就在于是利用原子而非晶片进行运算,其方法不是进行线性运算,而是同时进行所有可能的运算,因而速度可能要快10亿倍。
