那是1999年的秋天,我所在的《华尔街日报》(The Wall Street Journal)被金钱所淹没。感谢网站的繁荣,它带来了大量的广告,我们几乎每天都竭尽全力予以应对,但由于版面所限,不得不回绝部分广告。即便是在那个报业的好时代,有两个不是报纸名称的名字就开始不断地出现了:雅虎(Yahoo)和谷歌(Google)。记得,当我得知我们自己的读者查核股票价格的主要途径是雅虎的金融版时,我感到很震惊。而两个来自斯坦福大学(Stanford)的年轻人创办的名为谷歌的搜索引擎,我和我的许多同事都已经在使用它了。
That was the Fall of 1999, where my The Wall Street Journal was flooded with money. Thanks to the website’s prosperity, it brought a large amount of advertisements and we tried our best to deal with it almost daily, but due to limited layout, we had to reject some advertisements. Even in the days of the press, two non-newspaper names began to emerge: Yahoo and Google. Remember, I was shocked when I learned that our own readership was the financial gateway to Yahoo’s primary way of checking stock prices. And two search engines, Google, started by two young people from Stanford, are already using it with me and many of my colleagues.
