Although Kurt Vonnegut is reputed to be one of the representatives of postmodernist novelists in the United States, his works often contain obvious modernity. In the postmodern framework of the narrative model of uncertainty, fragmentation and metafiction, his novel “Slaughterhouse No. 5” uses both the stream of consciousness in modernism and his ultimate concern for the meaning of life. Postmodern and modern are both inextricably linked and different from modernism. At the same time of its departure from and rebellion against the modernity, post-modern has carried on its selective inheritance and development.
