近几年来,具有数字计算机能力设备的设计有了新的方向,一般地说,计算机的功能曾经用标准的和专门设计的小面积和中面积(SSIMSI)集成逻辑电路来实现。现在已经有越来越多的MOS和双极型的大面积集成电路,可以用来实现这些功能。多数大面积集成器件是可编程序的,这给设计者提供了一种快速而灵活的方法来获得特定的线路结构。同时又保持了元件和模块大量生产时的经济性。大面积集成的CPU可以做成固定字长(4、8或16位数据宽度)的单片的微处理机,也可做成可变字长(2,4……16 32位等等),多片,位片处理机。
