关于文艺作品的社会效果问题,是邓副主席在四次文代会的《祝辞》中提出的,他说:“对人民负责的文艺工作者,要始终不渝地面向广大群众,在艺术上精益求精,力戒粗制滥造,认真严肃地考虑自己作品的社会效果,力求把最好的精神食粮贡献给人民。”这个要求体现了党中央对文艺工作者的关怀与期望,也反映了广大人民群众的愿望和要求。一年来,在如何理解和看待文艺的社会效果问题上存在着一些分歧,这是正常的,完全可以通过讨论逐步求得一致。但是,有的同志在讨论中提出了这样一种意见,即作家在进行创作时,不可能考虑作品的社会效果;甚至还有的责难说,提出社会效果的社会效果是不好的。这种意见显然是不对的。
