The rules relating to bareboat charter registration are different and have much room for international unification. This article,first of all, introduces and analyzes the new system of bareboat charter registration in China by comparing with the old one. Secondly, it points out that there exists the “dual registration” of the bareboat chartered vessels. Thirdly, the article holds that ownership of and mortgage on the bareboat chartered vessels should be governed by the laws of the state of underlying registration. The author maintains that the state of temporary registration is responsible for exercising effective jurisdiction and control over the operation and management of the bareboat chartered vessels.
