“Prince and Poverty” is the representative work of Mark Twain, an American realistic writer in the late nineteenth century. Although the novel was set against the background of Britain in the 16th century, it mirrored the 19th century American capitalist society. The author uses a large number of contrasting techniques in his works, constructs the ups and downs of the plot, portrays characters with different characters, derives a hilarious humorous effect, and thus expounds the profound theme. This article aims at the comparison between “princes and poor children” and the humorous effect they produce, trying to provide a new perspective for the interpretation of this work.
