This study investigated the changes of early plasma endothelin (ET) and hemorrheology in rats with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and the effects of captopril on it. The results showed that at 6h after AMI, the plasma ET level increased significantly and the hemorrheology was abnormal. Captopril treatment could significantly inhibit the increase of ET, improve the blood rheology and reduce the range of myocardial infarction. It is suggested that the early changes of ET and hemorheology may play an important role in the pathophysiology after AMI. Captopril may reduce the level of ET in the early stage of AMI and improve the hemorrheology, which may be one of the mechanisms of AMI treatment.
