The UN Food and Agriculture Organization （FAO） awarded China on June 7， 2015 for its share in reducing the global proportion of people suffering from hunger.
China has witnessed remarkable achievements over the past three decades since the launch of its reform and opening-up policy. Rapid development of comprehensive national strength and a higher standard of living have laid a solid foundation for the country to assume more international responsibilities in accordance with its ability and world status. China has， together with the international community， contributed to stabilizing and reviving the global economy since the breakout of the global financial crisis and European sovereign debt crisis. China also steadfastly promotes peace talks and peaceful settlements throughout major hot international and regional issues， and is a proactive participant in UN peacekeeping missions. The country has so far sent more than 30，000 peacekeeping personnel on 24 peacekeeping missions. Among the five permanent members of the UN Security Council， China has mobilized the largest number of Blue Helmets.
On June 9， 2015， Shenyang Military Area Command of the People’s Liberation Army decorated the country’s peacekeeping forces on their return from Mali. During the eight-monthlong mission， the troops’ sapper team completed more than 30 construction and engineering support projects， including building bridges， repairing roads， and constructing airports. The security team has fulfilled 700 or more armed patrol and escort missions and dealt with more than 90 emergencies. Meanwhile， the medical team treated 1，703 outpatients and 110 inpatients. All 395 of the Blue Helmets were awarded UN Peace Medals for their outstanding contributions to the mission. Their performances showcase China’s endeavor to live up to its responsibilities.
China moreover strives to work with the international community in tackling such global challenges as major natural disasters， climate change， food security， and terrorism.
China was among the first to help Ebola-hit countries in West Africa. In addition to providing material aid， Chinese medical experts trained more than 6，000 local healthcare and social workers， 395 teachers， and over 8，000 students to combat the disease.
As the world’s largest developing country， China is all too aware of the importance of balancing economic development and environmental protection. While maintaining stable economic growth， the government has revved up its efforts to control environmental pollution and climate problems. These moves have been recognized by both its people and the global community. In a study published last June， the London School of Economics and Political Science pointed out that there is likely to be a decline in China’s greenhouse gas emissions by 2025， five years earlier than pledged. “China’s transformation has profound implications for the global economy， and greatly increases the prospects of keeping global greenhouse gas emissions within relatively safe limits，” the study said.
In his keynote speech at the Boao Forum for Asia Annual Conference last March， Chinese President Xi Jinping said that being a big country means shouldering greater responsibilities as regards regional and world peace and development. Xi has always stressed that the country will make ever more proactive and constructive contributions to international affairs by raising solutions and contributing China’s wisdom.
As its national strength grows， China’s capabilities to assume international responsibilities are also expected to improve， so enabling the country to contribute even more to the world.
