Watches and calculators on the battery is expected to extend its use of time up to 5 to 10 times. This is because the new display material makes the calculator display more clearly. This new display material is a tungsten-oxygen compound that turns blue when it is energized and does not disappear without electricity until a countercurrent sheds its blue color. Electricity is used only to change the numbers on the surface rather than to maintain the entire program and display. Currently, the display of meters and calculators requires a constant power supply, which disappears if the energy is depleted. Engineers at the University of Florida have written a patent to disclose their work, and any patent that is published about the tungsten-oxygen electrochromic technology will be given to the University of Florida, and it will approve the technology. The work is funded by the U.S. Army Research Office.
