《圣经·创世记》第11章里说,巴别塔是当时人类联合起来兴建,希望能通往天堂的高塔。为了阻止计划,上帝要人类说不同的语言,使人类相互之间不能沟通,计划因此告吹,人类自此各散东西。此故事很可以比喻当今中国日益板结的社会结构。在上世纪90年代中期以前,干部有权,但它的经济收入和文化资源,相对较少;知识分子有声望有文化,但权太小、钱太少;老板有钱,但是声望和权力资源匮乏。现在呢,不少官员的工资虽然不高,但是有房有车,有的人即使是高中毕业,也要去弄个博士当当;很多教授工资
In the eleventh chapter of Bible Genesis, the Tower of Babel was the tower that mankind united to build and hoped to lead to paradise. In order to stop the plan, God wants human beings to speak different languages so that human beings can not communicate with each other and plans are therefore to be brought to an end. Mankind will then come loose with everything. This story is very much like the increasingly complicated social structure in China today. Before the mid-1990s, cadres were entitled but their economic incomes and cultural resources were relatively small. Intellectuals had prestige and culture but too little power and too little money.
