Lowering TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) has been a hot topic lately for vendor speculation, and IBM and Microsoft have begun to move toward that goal. IBM tried to provide users of IBM Desktop PCs with WorkSpace On-Demand version 2.0 with an effective way to make some older PCs have access to the new PC’s network boot capabilities. And Microsoft’s Windows NT Terminal Server Edition takes advantage of low-cost terminal hardware to provide older systems with access to 32-bit Windows applications.
