Yunnan Province carried out prevention and blind work on the basis of an investigation of eye disease epidemics in the province in 1986. In the past 10 years, Luliang, Maitreya, Lufeng, Mengzi, Tengchong, Jingdong, and Luoping have counties. They organized and conducted plans to carry out comprehensive prevention and blindness work, and have won the National Advanced County for Prevention of Blindness. According to the decision of China’s Ministry of Health, the State Education Commission and the China Disabled Persons Federation, the country will build 10 years of advanced prevention and control of blindness by the year 2000.
